What motor would replace my current burnt out motor?

Here are some pictures of my current pump and motor.

I believe it’s a pentair superflo and the motor is a 1.5hp.

The only model number I have are

SF-N1-1-1/2A/340039.

I got some recommendations from TFP.

VS and Single speed recommendations would be helpful.
Also does 48y square flange fit on 56y pump housing?

I’ll start with the basics. The Century (A.O. Smith) 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor, Square Flange 56Y Frame, Single Speed - Model B2854V1, B2854 would be an identical replacement motor for your Pentair SuperFlo Pump. We always recommend replacing the seals when replacing the motor for a leak-free installation. This GoKit78 will have everything you need; you can get the GoKit78Salt if you have a saltwater pool. Check out our guide on How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump for some helpful tips.

A 48Y square flange motor and a 56Y flange motor are essentially interchangeable - size-wise. The flange is identical, but the body (diameter) of the motor is smaller by 1" on the 48-frame motor than on the 56-frame motor. The replacement motors that are 48-frame contain a 1/2" thick rubber spacer to add to the motor mount to help support it in case the original motor was a 56-frame. Installing a 56-frame motor on a pump that had a 48-frame motor might be difficult since 1/2" of material would need to be removed from the motor support to accomodate the thicker motor.

Variable-speed motors are starting to be required in a few states and more states will surely follow suit. They are actually pretty wonderful unless you have water features (laminar jets, waterfalls) in your pool, since they will save you quite a bit on your utility bill. The can easily pay for themselves when they are set up properly over their lifespan.

We carry a couple of options for a variable-speed motor replacement for your pump. I like the Century (A.O. Smith) 1.65 HP Motor, V-Green, Square Flange 48Y, Variable Speed - Model ECM16SQU since you have full control over programming the speed and duration, but this is not allowed for some states (California and New York at the time of this post). The Century (A.O. Smith) V-Green EVO 1.65 HP Up Rate VS Motor, Square Flange 48Y Frame, Variable Speed - Model EVQ165 is pre-programmed at the factory with a number of programs that you can choose from, and it is compliant in all 50 states. Both motors feature Century Connect which allows them to operate with the big-name pool automation systems (click here to see which ones are compatible). Inyo Pools offers an 18-month warranty on variable-speed motors (single- and dual-speed motors have a 12-month warranty) and, should the unthinkable happen, come back to us if you need a warranty replacement and we will take care of it.
