What is this part?

Can anyone tell me what the black tube here(see image below; small hose is highlighted by yellow) between the pipp leading to my filter and going to the return plumbing is? Note that there is a solar heater going up to the roof on the top right(in case it’s something for that). I was guessing some bleeder hose of some sorts, but I can’t find anything online about it…

I can hear some air escaping when the pump is on where this tube connects to the return plumbing, and I’m not sure if this is a leak or a function.

Thanks.

Now I’m starting to think this is a feeder hose for an offline chlorinator or something that has been removed…

Good afternoon Derek. Yes, you are correct. It is a hose for an offline chlorinator. Something similar to this. Click here to view one. It was bypassed for some reason.

Thank you for confirming.  As I mentioned in my original quote, the one side of the tube(the one connected to the return) is leaking air(somehow; I’d think it would be water, but maybe it’s sucking air in?). I’m not sure if it’s the little rubber pad under the band or one of the threaded pieces. I tried putting teflon tape on the threads, but that doesn’t fix it. Is there any way to patch the hole(removing the tube entirely) in the PVC without cutitng it out and re-PVCing?

Thanks.

Hi Derek. So you could likely replace the saddle, gasket and maybe compression nut which you can view on this parts diagram here however it might be cheaper to purchase a coupling, cut and glue the coupling there. It’s ultimately up to you.

Would it be possible for me to take a coupling, cut/rip it length-wise and pvc cement/glue the half over the hole? From what I’ve read, the PVC glue basically welds it to the pipe, so this should stand up to the pressure?

Thanks for the advice.
