Variable Speed Retrofit

Hi,

I just bought a house with a Pentair WhisperFlo WFE-4 1 HP filter pump that I would like to switch to something more efficient.  I heard variable speeds are the way to go… but b/c this is a dedicated line (filter only), could I do a lower-power motor?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

John

Hi John, changing your pump motor to variable-speed will certainly help with your utility bill as long as you are able to turn the speed down.  Turning it down a few steps can save you 30% or more on the electricity it uses.

The only time variable-speed pool pumps/motors have issues is if you have certain water features like waterfalls or laminar jets.  They usually require a good flow to operate properly and look nice.

We would recommend this Pentair Whisperflo VS Motor Upgrade Kit - 1.65HP - MKIT32VS16, as it has the proper variable-speed motor for your pump as well as a new impeller and seals to get the most out of your pump.
