Upgrading equipment

I need to replace my pool filter (American Products Titan RPM 36 sq ft), multiport valve, and 1 1/2 HP pump (American Products UltraFlow).  All suction piping is 2" and pressure piping is 1 1/2".  Pool holds approx 20,000 gallons with spa/hot tub, 1 main drain, 1 skimmer and 2 water falls.  Flow rate is sufficient now to make water falls look good.  Suction vacuum uses skimmer suction.  Aqualogic control and salt chlorination.  Pump runs about 5 hours per day during season (Central Florida).

Looking at Pentair DE 180007 with 2" multiport valve as almost direct replacement.  Big question is pump.  Is there any advantage to a VS pump? Current pump leaks and must be replaced, but plenty of water for features and cleaning.  Would electric savings be significant enough.  Recommendations including models.

Thanks.

There is a lot of advantages to a VS pump. The obvious benefit is that is an energy saver. You should only need to run the pump on higher speeds when you need to vacuum, backwash the DE filter, or run the waterfalls. The rest of the time the pool can circulate at a low speed. Another benefit is how quiet the VS pumps run when not on high speed.

What is the service factor rating on your current motor? This rating should be on the motor specification label.
