Top Rail Caps

Do I really need to purchase the top rail caps?  They are almost $300, I will need 16 of them.  Are they really that necessary?  Is there anything else that I can do to take their place?

Hello Tammy - The top caps serve more as an aesthetic purpose than a structural purpose. However, we strongly recommend them if you have metal top plates. Without the protection of the top cap, the top plates will quickly rust. I am not aware of anything else you can use to replace them.
