I had my Sta-Rite 1.5 single speed pump rebuilt two years ago, with no issues since. It’s hot now in AZ (100+) and suddenly it shuts off as the sun gets high. This hadn’t happened before or since the rebuild. I suspected overheating and made a mini shade from some spare garden shade cloth. The pump has worked perfectly for two days with that makeshift solve but my question is whether the thermal switch or some other component is starting to go, since it hadn’t overheated before under same conditions for years.
It could be the thermal switch Below are instructions on how to test the thermal overload.
Like the tip states, it could be other issues. This could include receiving a voltage that is + or - 10% of the listed voltage. Ambient temperatures around 122° can impact the motor. The more likely scenario is that your motor windings may be failing. In that case, you’d want to replace the motor.
Thanks much!
You’re welcome. Good luck!
