I know its not ideal to use an extension cord to run an above ground pool pump, however my electrican can not make it out for about 2 weeks. I have the Dynamo Pump 1-1/2 HP, which is located 80’ from my nearst plug in. I finally have the pool full, which has been a slow process due to being on well water. I’ve been doing my best to maintain the water with manually stirring and adding chlorine. However, this is not going as well as I thought and wonder if I could use a heavy duty extension cord until my electrican makes it out?
Hi Angcar,
Yes you should be fine using a heavy duty extension cord, the lower the gauge the better (i.e. thicker cord) I would also periodically check the cord near the pump to make sure it is not hot.
Thank You
Patrick
a 10-2 gauge cord would be ideal but 12-2 will work when i runmy wire i use 10-2 underground! be sure to tape some plastic around cord ends where its plugged together to prevent water from reaching metal prongs
Great advice BERKSpoolguy, thanks so much!
Thank you! You both just made my life a little easier.
Angcar,
I’m glad to hear that, let us know how it works.
Thanks
Patrick
