Temp not rising

I just purchased a new Raypak 106A heater for our spa.  It has been hooked up for over a week now, and temp will not raise above 90 degrees.

We’d be glad to assist you. What is the air temperature? Are you using a spa cover or solar blanket?

It is an inside pool and spa

Air outside is about 44 degrees, inside the pool room about 72degrees

Not usuing spa cover or blanket.  Room is already warm but temp in spa stops at 90 degrees and doesnt go up. The knob is all the way at end of red.  Thanks!

Could you post a couple pictures of the heater location and the plumbing configuration? Would you happen to know the inlet and manifold gas pressure?

If this is beyond your troubleshooting capabilities, we recommend contacting Raypak tech support.

This is our piping and our heater set up for our spa, temp will not go above 90 degrees

We sent your pictures to Raypak. Below was their response.

This unit MUST be turned off and red tagged immediately! That is NOT the correct draft hood for that heater, and presents a carbon monoxide danger to anyone in the building. They need to purchase the indoor top #014357 and have it installed by a licensed professional, before the heater can be operated. Also, the flexible appliance gas line does not meet NFG code, and is very restrictive- which is likely the reason why the water is not getting up to temperature. This also needs to be changed to black iron pipe, if natural gas, by licensed contractor. Then, inlet dynamic gas pressure and manifold gas pressure must be tested and documented. Any damage that may have been caused by the incorrect installation (i.e. sooted heat exchanger, heat damage to wiring or controls) will not be covered by warranty.

This was a follow up from Raypak.

Hi again Rob, in looking further at the photos, it appears as if the other heater next to the 106 is also incorrectly vented. It is difficult to tell for sure from the photos, but if so, that unit also must be turned off and red tagged as well- until the venting is re run by a licensed mechanical contractor using the proper draft hood.
