Hi. I’d welcome any advice I can get on a Pentair SunTouch controller and its parts. I have an Omron ‘relay’ that’s burnt out - part number 1729H2 - and it would be great to find an equivelent.
I also want to learn what this relay does. Does it control the how the system is powered up and down? The relay was located in the lower left corner of the suntouch - hopefully I’ll be able to add a photo.
Thanks, Jim
Hello Jim - The relay for the Pentair SunTouch is part number 9237-135. More than likely, that is the relay for the pool pump. You should be able to trace the wires from that relay back to the equipment it powers.
Thanks for getting back to me. There appears to be 3 relays in the suntouch cabinet and the wiring is very convoluted, a real surprise when I opened the cabinet!
I found a diagram of the relay placement. It looks like the pump relay is in the upper left. The other two are AUX relays. This could be for lights, heater, blower, or anything that requires 230v or 115v.

The story gets stranger…
I replaced the aux 1 relay that was burnt out and the unit sort of functions again. The unit switches itself on at the scheduled time but here’s what happens next:
… At the programed shut off time the controller changes its status to “off” but the motor kept running! I then turn the motor and suntouch unit off by switching off the power supply.
… When I turn the power supply back on within a couple of minutes of powerdown the motor instantly starts!
… But when I turn the power supply off and wait 20+ minute and then turn on the power supply the motor remains off.
So I’m thinking a relay may be ‘sticking’ open due, potentially, to heat and wear. With the power supply off for 20+ minutes the relay has time to cool down and it releases. I have a single speed motor (and just one motor) so I’m thinking that replacing the top left relay, (filter pump), would be the right next step. But I could be wrong…
I’d welcome any other suggestions about what mights be happening here and how I might fix it.
Thanks, Jim
