I have an AO Smith Model K48L2N104 that seems to have died after a really long day of running in the SoCal heat. Not sure how old it was to begin with, but I’m comfortable replacing it. A quick search shows the AO Smith CT1102 is the go-to pump to replace it like-for-like.
My question is whether the AO Smith B128 would be a suitable replacement? It looks to have nearly identical specs, but is about $80 cheaper, and I could have it here in a couple days vs. a week.
What say you, Pool Gurus?
Hello Socalpenpal - You could replace the CT1102 with the B128. The body of the B128 is a little wider but the frame is the same. The main difference is that the CT1102 is more energy efficient. This means it will cost a little more to run the B128.
We recommend replacing the seals when you replace the motor. Do you know the make and model of the pump? If not, you can post a picture of the complete pump.
As it turns out, during further inspection of the pump I noticed several areas of severe wear (the diffuser had a hole worn in it, the impeller had fins bent, and busted rings galore). After adding each part piecemeal to a cart, it looks like it was about $50 more to get a whole new system. So the Super Pump it is!
