Salt Generator Passes in store test but not generating pool at pool. T-15 ARP Hayward

Have 2, T-15 salt cells both PASS in store test but will not create chlorine when connected to pool. In store tester is new also.
No panel errors, all chem levels within range. FLOW = yes. Cells create bubbles from bottom of pool. Double checked pool set up, all correct.
Adding liquid chlorine with cell set to 100%. Levels drop cell does nothing to help chloring level. What left the Mother Board? GLX-PCB-AR-PRO.
Am I missing anything?

Hi David, my guess is that either you have no (or low levels of) stabilizer in your pool or you have algae (even if you don’t see it). Check your stabilizer level and, if it is within range for your pool, start to SLAM your pool (Shock Level of chlorine And Maintain) as instructed in the guide here.

Saltwater chlorine generators are great at maintaining chlorine levels in pools when things are going well but they are unable to keep up with the demand if there is algae or if the sun is eating it all up.

Let us know what you find.

Thank’s for the quick response.
CYA Acid level was at 42 this morning, just had it checked. Phosphates were 0, pool is cloudy, no green. The pool builder recommended level is 30-50 for the aqua rite pro and 50-80 for all others. Does this sound correct. Pool is about 7 yrs old now.
I just add added shock this morning also. I’ll keep you posted.
Let me know what you recommend for CYA levels.

It is our pleasure to help! 42 sounds like kind of a sketchy number, since it is difficult to measure stabilizer that closely. Pool stores can be a little unreliable on testing, so I would recommend purchasing a good test kit for confidence in your levels.

Having said that, you probably have some kind of algae in your pool even though you can’t see it (though you are seeing something with cloudy water). The SLAM level for chlorine in your pool, if you have 40 ppm of stabilizer, is 16ppm of chlorine (measuring all this stuff is where a good test kit really comes in handy as well as a speed stir to make it a little more enjoyable). Maintain that level or slightly above until an overnight chlorine loss test shows that the chlorine level has not dropped from sundown to sun up (only 2 things consume chlorine - the sun and algae/organics, so, as long as the level does not drop overnight, your algae/organics are completely gone).

After that, your saltwater chlorine generator will easily be able to keep up with the daily needs of the sanitizer in your pool. Note that good old-fashioned liquid chlorine is all you need to get your pool back up and looking crystal clear. You can use cheapo bleach from the store or pool store liquid bleach (or any bleach with no fragrances or thickeners). Do not add anything else!

42 comes from the test machine they have, Leslies pool stores. They fill the disk with your sample water and it spits out the results.

That should be fine. I’m always a little cautious on pool store water test results (I’m old and crabby) since many pool stores want to sell you more stuff to add to your water.

You were right, followed you instructions, keep chlorine level at 13 for over 24 hours pool running, killed the CLOUDY ALGE, pool is crystal clear now.
Thanks again for you expertise. You solved my issue!

That’s great to hear! Enjoy your crystal-clear pool!
