RUST STAINS

How do I repair rust coming through the walls below the water line with out draining the pool?

Hello SORCERYR,

The first thing I would do is take a water sample to your local pool store and have them do a complete water analyasis, including the iron and copper levels. Rust staining occur from metals in your water sticking to the walls of your pool. The water test will confirm if the water in your pool is high in metals. You would then need to eliminate the metals in your pool using Rust & Scale (Metal Control). Have your water retested and reapply the Rust & Scale until the metals are no longer present. Once the metals are removed from the water, you will need to add Super Rust & Scale Remover to assist in lightening and removing the rust stains. You can also try and test an area with a vitamin C tablet to see if the stain will lighten up or be removed.

You can also have rusting appear behind the wall of the pool. The main cause of this would be from the finish of the pool walls being very thin and the rebar or frame of the pool is becoming exposed. You would need to consider patching or refinishing the pool to eliminate this cause of rust spots. You would need to contact local pool refinisher’s in your area for quotes on the cost of this repair.

Thank you,

Alan

Thank U for your response.

I maintaina number of pools here in the Virgin Islands and it is definitely rebar and other heavy iron laden

junk rock used for fill.

I have had this one re fiberglassed but the stain returns in a matter of months.

My main question is: Is there any substance that can be applied underwater that will block the stain for a

while. I know what the only real solution is but people are reluctant to spend that much money when even that is not

permanent.

The only real fix for your pools with rebar being exposed is a repair job. The cost can be unattractive but it is the best option.

You are welcome and have a great day!
