Replacing AO smith pool filter motor - 8-177425-03

Hello, I got my filter replaced last year to pentair Clean & Clear 520 sq. Ft., I don’t think the motor was replaced that time. Now this year as soon as I start the filter it trips the breaker, and an electrician checked and recommended to replace the motor as it is pulling in around 52 AMPS.

So my motor is AO Smith 8-177425-03, Type - CX, FR - Y56Y.

I am not sure if this motor was good enough for the new filter, but can someone recommend me a good and efficient motor that can replace my current motor and will be compatible with the new filter that I have bought.

thanks

Ray

Hi Ray,

I’m not getting a match on that 8-177425-03 part # Could you take a picture of the motor label and a wider shot showing the complete pump. Once we get the pictures we can definitely make a reccomendation.

Thank You

Patrick

Hey Patrick…

Please find the wide shot of my filter pump attached.

Hi Ray,

If you wanted to stay with the exact same motor then you would go with the B2843 2 HP Replacement Motor You have a Pentair Whisperlo Pump so you would also need a the Pentair Whisperflo Tune Up Kit GoKit32

If you want to go with something really energy efficient then you could with the B2984T Dual Speed 2 HP Motor w/ Digital Controller a dual speed motor has a high speed and a low speed, so you run the pump the majority of the time at the low speed which costs you roughly 60% less to operate then when operating at the high speed. You then can run the motor at the high speed if you get heavy debris or need to vacuum. If you go the dual speed route you would still need the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit. I hope this helps.

Thank You

Patrick

Hey Patrick,

Thanks for the information… I probably will go with the B2843 2 HO Replacement Motor. Do you think I would need anything other than the tune up kit you mentioned for that.  Plus do you think I would need a pool repair person to come and change this… or I can myself change it or have some electrician or handy do this.  Secondly, if you notice from the pictures my pump is pretty old too… the filter was the only thing changed last year… Can you please let me know how much would it cost to buy the whole pump (with already assembled motor for this filter).  ThanksRay

Hey Ray,

You would just need the Tune Up Kit. We do have a Video on How to Replace a Pool Motor which will walk you through the process of replacing your motor, I would say most of our customers do it themselves.

If you wanted to go with a complete new pump then you would need the Whisperflo WFE-8 2 HP Pump and we do have a Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump which you may find helpful.

Thanks

Patrick
