Replacement Pump

Sta-Rite pumps are durable.  I have a pump that is 11 years old and seems to be running fine … except for the motor is whining.  Live in Coastal area where it runs 12 months of year.  Have replaced motor ~ every 5.5 years.  Is it realistic to expect the pump to last another 5.5 years (i.e., realistic to replace the motor one more time)?

If I go with motor replacement, what motors should I evaluate for a Sta-Rite P6E6e-206L?

Ihave a throttle valve in the discharge to the pool.  Is it possibe to (adjust ) the throttle valve too much andrun too much flow through the pump and damage  it or would it be obvious?

Hi Franky,

Great question! Yes I think it is definitely realistic to think you will get another 5.5 years out of your Sta-Rite pump housing. I would suggest the QC1102 1 HP Energy Efficient Replacement Motor for your pump as well as the Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Seal Kit. Here is a Video on How to Replace your Pool Motor which you may find helpful but you are probably a pro since you have done it two times before.

If you have a throttle valve on the discharge side of the pump you would not want to throttle the output down as this will put more resistance on the pump causing it to fail prematurely, so it would be best to have the valve wide open.

Thank You

Patrick

I took your recommendation and installed the QC1102 and seals this past weekend.  The motor is driving the pump as expected with the valve in the same throttled position.  I will start opening the valve a little each day to ensure no issues with the pool cleaner or the pump and flow.  Thanks for your recommendation.

Franky,

That is great news! Keep us posted on how things perform when you start to open up the valve.

Thank You
