Replace bromine feeder

I have a 35000 gallon in-ground pool and need to replace the bromine feeder. The existing feeder is installed in and off-line fashion with 3/4 inch PVC. I’m thinking an equivilent feeder would be the Pentair Rainbow HC-3315 (R171215) but am not sure. What other feeders should I consider and why?

Hi FranD,

I think you are going down the right path with the Pentair Rainbow HC-3315 (R171215) I like this chlorinator because it is has much larger capacity to hold tablets meaning less time refilling with tablets. Also this feeder uses large 1" pvc vs. other units using smaller 3/8" tubing. Since you have 3/4" you will need to purchase a 3/4" to 1" pvc fitting at your local hardware store but this should be less than a dollar. So my reccomendation would be the Pentair Rainbow HC-3315 (R171215)

Thank You

Thanks Patrick!

Is the HC-3315 a big enough unit for 35000 gallons? I see on the spec sheet that it can treat 97000 gallons with chlorine, but I’m using bromine and the stat says it only treats 20,000 gallons (when using bromine). Is this correct? Do I need the next size up feeder or is the real difference between the HC-3315 and HC-3330 simply how much bromine tablets they can hold?

Thanks Frank

FrankD,

Nice catch I forgot you said you were using Bromine, yes I would go up the the HC-3330 Bromine Feeder that can treat up to 40,000 gallons with Bromine. Yes the differences between the two Bromine Feeders is simply how many tablets it can hold.

Thanks Patrick

Patrick,

I’m not sure I understand the rating difference between the feeders. The spec says the HC-3315 holds 15 lbs of tables and can treat 20,000 gallons while the HC-3330 holds 30 lbs and treats 40,000. Does this imply that the HC-3315 would be fine for a 35,000 galllon pool but would have to be filled more often or is it more complicated than that? I would prefer the smaller feeder (HC-3315) because of the physical size (old feeder is about the same size as the HC-3315) and am fine with having to fill it more often. My current feeder is about the same size as the HC-3315 and I fill it about every 3 weeks.

I am fine with using the HC-3330 if is more effective - just wondering if the HC-3315 is also fine to use.

Thanks, Frank

Hi FrankD,

The HC-3315 would be fine for a 35,000 galllon pool but would have to be filled more often than the HC-3330, you would fill it similarly to your current feeder, every 3 weeks. You will be fine with the HC-3315.

Thank You

Patrick
