Hello Covkid - We’d be glad to assist you. We would recommend Century model B2843. It’s an energy efficient 2HP single speed motor. It will fit your existing casing and impeller.
We would also recommend replacing the seals. The seal kit for the Whisperflo is GOKIT32. Go with the GOKIT32SALT if you have salt water.
Thanks for a really speedy response, Inyo Rob! Certainly sounds like that’s the one I need to go with. And thanks for speccing the Seal Kit for me too - it makes life much easier for me!
Will I have any special problems with the wiring, or is just a case of discarding the existing “Low Speed” connection?
Btw, something else I always wanted to know: what is the ins/lbs torque setting for the casing bolts? Or is it just a “tight enough to stop the leak, but not so tight as to shear it” rule?
You can remove the low line. All you’ll need now is the two hot lines and the ground. As far as the torque, i’m not sure what the exact amount is because the manufacturers don’t publish that anywhere. It just needs to be tight enough without really cranking it down.
Thank you again! Sounds straightforward enough that even an old guy like me should be able to manage it. Mind you, I’ve said that sooo … many times before! Ha!
In your earlier response, you recommended I purchase the Century model B2843 and the GOKIT32. I did that, but I’m having a little trouble inserting the Shaft Seal (AS-1000) into the Seal Plate. As recommended in the “How To Guide”, I’ve applied the SiliconeGel to the seat and I’m using a piece of PVC piping to hammer in the Seal so as not to damage the seal spring, but it just doesn’t seem to want to go. I’m wary of hammering it too hard for fear of cracking the Seal Plate.
Any ideas? Are we sure the AS-1000 is the right seal for the Whisperflo WFDS-8/011523 Casing? (Btw, the Impeller Seal went in easily.) Any help you can give me would be great, as I’m now stuck.
Sorry! Please ignore that last Post. I re-read it and realized it was a bit insulting to suggest that maybe you’d quoted me the wrong Seal, so I went out and hit it a bit harder (with a large rubber mallet via the PVC piping) and, lo and behold, it’s in there!!! Yay!
Sorry, but back to the Go-Kit32 once more. I find it contains two “Seal Plate O-Rings”, one denoted “G-413” and the other “G-478 (New)”. They both seem the same, except one may be very slightly thicker? Which is the correct one for my Pentair “WhisperFlo” WFDS-8/011523? And how do I tell which is which? They both come bundled together in the pack, with no way of identifying which one is which.
The G-413 (almond) is used with Whisperflo pumps manufactured before 2/1/08. The G-478 (black) has been used on Whisperflo pumps manufactured since 2/1/08.
FYI, reference our earlier discussion, I just wanted to let you know that, according to an “Owner’s Manual” published by Pentair on 5/20/2010 (Rev. G - P/N 071109) which I just found, on page 6 they spec the Torque Settings for the Whisperflo as:
Seal Plate to Motor - 70 in-lbs
Impeller Lock Screw - 25in-lbs
Motor Sub-Assembly to Strainer Pot-Pump Body - 110 in-lbs
