Pump pressure

Just replaced 1.5 hp pump motor with B854 (AOSB2854) - A.O. Smith 1.5 HP, 56Y Frame, Up-Rate Motor (b2854, 717721624). Pumps runs great yet the pressure on my filter housing is pushing 20 to 30 psi. I have a new filter inplace, Unicel C9415. Normal pressure with new filter is usually 7psi. I have throttled back the suction side valves and still am seeing higher than normal pressures. Is it possibe that the new pump being an up-rate motor is pushing more water? I have 1.5" lines on the suction and discharge sides.

Please advise

Hello Amhaff - The pressure would only rise if you went up in total HP (HP x SF). Since the B854 is an uprated 1.5HP, the output should not be any higher than your previous uprated 1.5HP motor (assuming your old motor was 1.5HP).

What does the water clarity look like? Can you see the bottom of the pool?

Previous motor was a Pentair Whisperflo 1.5 hp. Water clarity is bad, cannot see bottom, as I am clearing up an algae bloom that took off when the weather warmed up. I have been cleanign the filter at least twice a day hoping to see some results. Will continue this and hopefully it will correct itself.

The pressure in your filter is going to be high until the water is clear. You may have to clean out the filter several times a day. The pressure should stabilize once it is all cleared up.
