Pump getting power when timer is off

I have an inground pool, with a Hayward canister filter and pump, on an Intermatic timer. Two days ago I noticed at 6  AM ( far from the 11:00 kick on time) the pump came on and hummed. Sounded like half voltage. The timer clock was correct and the switch was off. I researched what I could, and replaced the timer today. Same thing, if you switch the manual on, it powers up for a bit then the pump motor overheats. My question is, if the timer is off and there should be no power to the pump, how can it possibly getting power. I am in Florida, and I am hooked to the power company kill on demand system, could their box be shorted and providing power to the pump when it shouldn’t? Obviously after the recent hurricane there may be some issues with Florida Power and Light. We have had 4 straight days of heavy rain and I really need to pump some water out. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello Bosshog - There is only one reason, that I can think of, why the pump may be getting power when the timer is off. It’s possible that one of the lines from your pump is connected to a line terminal on the timer. If that’s the case, that line would always have power. If you have a 230v Intermatic timer, the lines from the pump should be connected to terminals 2 & 4. Terminals 2 & 4 are the load terminals.
