Pool pump motor replacement

Hi, I just purchased a replacement motor b654 (replacing old b128) and the gokit2 for Hayward super II pump. I have completed the replacement but have 2 questions:

  1. The online parts diagram as well as how to videos show a part SPX3005R impeller ring that was not there when you took the assembly out. Is it possible that some models did not require this ring? All other gokit2 parts are an exact match and all the steps in how to video are fully matching.

if I put the pump back in operation without this part ( as it was before) what is the likely short or long term damage?

  1. Regarding electrical wiring the old motor was connected using two blue color wires to L1 and L2 plus green earth. I have made the same on new motor but don’t know which blue goes to which terminal so have done random connections. Is this ok?

waiting for quick help

thanks

  1. There should be an impeller ring in the Super II Pump. I’m not aware of any long-term damage if it doesn’t have one. Water may not flow through the pump as effectively without the ring but I think it is a minimal difference.

  2. It doesn’t matter which blue wire goes to L1 or L2.

Thanks. I have now installed the new motor and it is humming nicely :slightly_smiling_face: however I noticed a smell after a couple of minutes and turned it off. Do new motors generate any such smell when newly put in operation? All my connections and assembly looks nice n good.

It is not uncommon for new motors to have an odd smell. It’s also common for the motors to run hot to the touch.

If it starts turning off randomly, you have a problem.
