Pool pump/motor

When I turn my pump on, it smells like something is burning. I have taken the motor off of the pump and checked the impeller but if do not see anything melted.

Before I did this, my pump had been losing its prime after about 10-15 minutes of running. I was thinking there may be soimething in the impeller cutting the water flow down which caused it to lose its prime. ANy suggestions of what to check.

Was the pump running empty before you started smelling the burning? Is it making a lot of noise?

As far as the loss of prime, I’d look for a suction side air leak. The most common spot is the pump lid. The pump lid o-ring may need to be lubricated or replaced. Other common spots are the diverter valves and fitting at the suction port.
