Pool pump is primed but air in filter. Pouring water near pump fixes it until pump turns off

Very strange issue with my pump. The cartridge filter is getting a lot of air which is causing bubbles to come out of the return. There are no bubbles in the pump basket while the pump is on and it has no issues priming.

I have replaced the shaft seal and all other gaskets that come with the kit. Replaced the pump basket lid, o ring and 2 drainage plugs.

When I pour water UNDER the pump basket (yes, under or near the base, not the lid, pipes or drain plugs) this fixes the issue until the pump turns off. It will run for hours without any air in the filter and no bubbles out of the return. It’s not as if once the water I poured is gone is starts to suck air again. It only resets when the pump turns off and back on. The pump basket is making a strange noise once turned back on. Once I pour some water newe the base the noise goes away and the pump sounds normal.

This has been driving me crazy for the past month so any insight would be helpful.

It’s possible that the strainer pot has a slight crack. I recommend trying to find the leak with soap suds.

Here is a video that shows how to use soap suds to find an air leak.
