I have a 12,900 gallon pool currently running a single speed 2hp Hayward pump. I would like to switch to variable speed, what do you recommend for this size pool?

2HP seems high for a pool that size. Are there any other water features that use this pump? Waterfalls, deck jets, spa, solar panels?

We’ll assume that it was properly sized to handle the spa and waterfall. In that case, you’d want a VS pump that is 2HP or higher. We’d recommend the Waterway Power Defender 270. It is a 2.7HP variable speed pump.
