Pentair Pot Assembly

Purchased a home with an above ground pool, but have zero pool experience. While vacuuming the bottom of the pool, I noted that the vacuum began to lose suction. I checked the pot assembly and saw a bunch of leaves in it. I turned the motor off, removed the lid of the pot assembly and cleared the leaves out. When attempting to put the lid back on, it didn’t want to go, so I exerted quite a bit of downword pressure. After finally getting the lid back on and restarting the motor, I noted that water was leaking where the pot assembly joined the motor. On further inspection I noted that the pot assembly appeared to be very loosely connected to the motor. I turned the motor off again and I could easily pull the pot assembly away from the motor. I noted the pot assembly was threaded, but did not note any damage to the threads. I could not see the threading in the motor, but figured it was made of steel and would be undamaged.

My question is, did I screw the pot assembly and/or motor connection up by putting too much downward pressure on the pot assembly, even though the threads look fine? Secondly, do I need both a new motor and pot assembly?

Would it be possible to post a few photos of your pump and motor as this would give us a better idea on the proper fix. To me it sounds like you may want to go with a complete pump replacement, just to start fresh and there are some pretty good deals on complete pumps.

Patrick,

Thank you for your response. I’ve attached several photos. I also re-examined the threads of the pot and motor and see nothing wrong with them. I can litterly just push the pot connection to the motor into the motor itself and there is no resistance. Even if the threads on either the pot or motor were just stripped, I’d think there would be some resistance.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Sincerely, Steve

Can you remove the piece with the white teflon tape from the pot?
