I have a very small pool, maybe 7500 galloons and it is consuming more of my time than I would like it to. I. have a Jandy Pump, Model No. PHPF 1.0 with a Centurion Motor 1 HP, 230/150 voltage and 8.0/16.0 amps. No service factor listed on the pump motor. It was sooooo noisy (you could hear it down the block) so I replaced it with at B841 motor from inyopools.com:
A.O. Smith Centurion (Magnetek) replacement motors for Pentair WhisperFlo, energy efficient, full rated pumps. Specifications: HP = 1, RPM = 3450, Voltage = 115/208-230, Amps = 14.8/7.8-7.4, Service Factor = 1.65, Frame = 56Y, Shaft = Threaded.
The replacement was supposed to be more energy efficient and quieter. I followed the Inyo Pools instructions to the T and was very proud of myself in being able to dissassemble the old motor and install the new one. The mechanical seal (from the mechanical seal kit) I was shipped was too small so I left the old one on. Any idea on what I may have done wrong? Was this the right replacement motor?
Disappointed that this did not work out for now. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Thank you for contacting Inyo. Did your old motor run on 115v or 230v? The symptoms you are describing usually occur when the incorrect voltage is applied.
Normally, 230v systems will have a green (ground), a red (hot), and a black (hot) wire. A 115v system will have a green (ground), a black (hot), and a white (neutral) wire. However, you can’t always depend on the colors of the wires to be accurate.
We recommend using a multimeter to test the voltage of the lines. If one line is hot and one line is neutral, you have 115v. If both lines are hot, you have 230v.
i have had an electrician come out and they determined that everything was wired correctly for a 230v system and that there is sufficient voltage going to it. Any ideas? Did I purchase the correct pump motor in the first place? I am mystified. Thanks.
You ordered the correct motor, model B2841. It may be defective. Contact our customer support at 407-834-2200 or submit a request for a replacement on the following page. https://secure.inyopools.com/Support/SupportRequest.aspx
