New pump

Put in a Speck Badu 4 weeks ago  and am pleased. Until yesterday! Pump stopped running and so  did the booster pump for the Polaris. Checked voltage from breaker to timmers to connections at pumps and all are good.Called Speck and they said to  turn off breaker for 30 min.and hopefully it would reset, it did not. Will call them later to see about warrenty but shouldnt the booster pump run on its own? I have two of the old Intermatic timers. Juice is getting to the timer and to the booster pump but it will not turn. it’s not frozen, I can turn the shaft by hand. Tough to call without seeing everything but any advice would be helpfull.

Thanks

Dale

Hello Bandyboy - If power is getting to the booster pump, it should turn on regardless of the Speck pump. Maybe there was some kind of electrical surge and it knocked out both motors.

Thanks, I’ll take it to a pool shop and have them check it out

Please come back and let us know how things turn out. Good luck!

Rob, took the booster pump to a shop, they bench tested it and it worked fine???Called 6 pool service companys to come out but have not recieved a reply yet. I also called Speck and they s they would send a new pump a.s.p. Way cool!!!  but I don’t think the pump is bad, I suspect something in the wiring. As statrd before 220 volts are going to both pumps and the booster works on the bench.

Any ideas?

Dale

The correct power can’t be getting to the booster pump if it worked when bench tested and doesn’t when it’s wired at the house. Have you used a voltmeter at the booster pump connections to make sure power is getting all the way to the motor? What were those readings?

Yes voltmeter showed 220volts at the connection point on both pumps. One person I talked to said that they used to wire the booster pump so it would not go on unless the pool pump was runing.  So if the controll board on the pool pump is bad  it won’t let the booster turn on. But I have 220 to the booster pump and it’s on it’s timer so it should work!?!?!?

I’m assuming they bench tested the motor on low voltage. Were the connections changed back so it would match the wiring for 220? There should be a wiring diagram on the motor label.

Rob, got a pool teck to come out yesterday. He said the whole set up was wired wrong, been that way for the 22 years we’ve been here. He found out the timer to the pump was bad evan thou it got 220 volts at the motors. So  he by passed the bad timer and wired directly to the pum, changed a few other connections and every thing works great! Suggested a Pentair controller be put in so  all wires would in one box and protect the booster pump should we loose power causing the two timers to be off.

Dale - That’s great news! Thank you for coming back and giving us an update. We were all scratching our heads on this one.
