need recommendation Sand Filter + variable speed pump

Hi,

I currently have a Jandy Flo Pro FHPM .75 pump and the filter is a Jandy CS100.

I’d like to change to a variable speed pump in order to save electricity and also I’m looking to change to a sand filter. I feel that my current pump is too small. It disburses 50% into a raised spa that spills over into the pool. The spill over is very slow. The other 50% goes to a inground cleaning system. The noisels barrely even pop out due the water pressure being too low. I believe the pump is way too small for my pool.

I’m thinking I should double the pump horsepower …?

What about a Hayward S270T2 filter with a Raypak 1.65HP variable spped pump. Does this seem like a good replacement or do you have any other recommenations?

Hi Jochen,

The set up of a Hayward S270T2 and a Raypak 1.65HP variable spped pump would be perfect for the pool and spa combo you explained. You should really see a cost savings with the variable speed pump and you will have the ability to increase the HP when needed. The S270T2 is a nice big sand filter meaning you will put less stress on your pump getting longer life out of your motor, the larger filter also means longer time between cleanings.

Thank you

Patrick

Hi,

I have afollow-up question.

I’m using an Intellitouch i9.3 Control center.

The Raypak pump manual shows that the pump can be wired to communicate with IntelliTouch.

What exactly will happen if I wire the Raypak Pump PS165VSP to my IntelliTouch? Will the Intellitouch instantly recognize the VSP (after the low voltage wiring is complete) and allow me to program different speeds for different times of the day? And different speeds for different applications, e.g. when I turn to spa mode I might want to go into a high RPM ? There are no instruction included with the Raypak pump other than the actual wiring and the IntelliTouch manual doesn’t cover 3rd party equipment.

Hi Jochen,

We reached out to the manufacturer and we have answered your questions below…

Question:

“What exactly will happen if I wire the Raypak Pump PS165VSP to my IntelliTouch?”

 Answer:

The PS165VSP utilizes low volt “digital inputs” to activate speeds.  The IntelliTouch can activate speeds via spare relays, or low volt spa socket.  The speeds will be set by the user on the motor user interface and the automation will simply activate a speed when called for.

Question:

“Will the Intellitouch instantly recognize the VSP (after the low voltage wiring is complete) and allow me to program different speeds for different times of the day? And different speeds for different applications, e.g. when I turn to spa mode I might want to go into a high RPM ?

**Make sure to power down all equipment before making any connections!**I recommend wiring the high voltage leads to the filter pump relay exactly like the previous single speed pump.  From there use the override digital input in the motor to tie into the spare spa socket on the automation board.  The spare spa socket should be detailed in the automation system user manual as a 2-pin (black/red) plug type connector.  Make sure to power down all equipment before making any connections!  Failing to power down equipment is a safety hazard and could damage equipment!  This configuration will allow the user to set steps 1,2, and 3 on the motor user interface to run thru the day.  Powering on the filter pump relay with the automations digital timer will start the schedule every day.  From there with the override tied into the spare spa socket set override on the motor user interface for desired high speed.  When the socket is active, spa is on, the motor will run on the set high speed until the spa is turned off or system is placed back into pool mode.
