Bought a house with inground pool, everything was great at beginning of summer but never could get vacum to get a good suction. Have a Hayward bump de filter normal start pressure 10 psi. Lost all pressure last week and pool store suggested a blocked impeller. I took it apart and there was a stick(not very big) that I took out. A couple days later back to no suction. I was told to bump when 8-10psi over normal pressure but at 15psi I just bumped again and got better suction but still at 15psi. I am wondering so close to closing my pool if I should release the de and at 6 more pounds or if I should just try to vacum with the suction I have and wait until start up next year. Also after unclogging my inpeller I now see a small drip from the top of my filter which has the bolts securing it, but now the drip has moved to the pvc pipe going from my pump to my filter dripping lightly right at the filter. I didn’t lube the o-ring in the pump after I checked the inpeller, should I take it apart again and do that, or look at the Union of that particular piping?? Agghhhh things were going so well in the beginning I thought I was a pro balancing the chemicals and what not, but I must say your how to guides and discussions have been extremely helpful!!!
Hi Byrne714 thanks so much for the thorough email. First off I would check out our Guide on How to Find and Fix Air Leaks if none of these items are the problem then many times this can be caused by bad plumbing which we tackle in this Video on How to Fix Pool Suction Issues from Bad Plumbing Could you post a few photos of your plumbing?
Ideally you would vacuuum your pool before closing, do you have a robotic cleaner? If you can’t figure out the low flow issue, then I would be okay with you closing the pool without fixing the flow issue and tackle it in the spring, but I would like to see you vac the pool prior to closing.
I will wait for a few photos and we can take it from there.
Thank You
