I just bought a diffuser and impeller for a Jandy Pump. Part numbers 5020-106 and R0807201. My question: The diffuser has what looks to be a brass ring inside. Question: What causes this ring to get so torn up?

Hi Barry, many impellers (like your R0807201) have a screw included to help keep the impeller securely attached to the motor shaft. This doesn’t matter on most pumps, but, if the impeller was loose and the screw was missing, the daily on and off cycle could make the impeller loosen and tighten and, over time, this could cause the brass to get chewed up by the harder (stainless steel) motor shaft.
