I just got a Raypak 140 btu heat pump. I got it installed by my service tech the other day. Since it’s been installed, my DE filter pressure went from a usual 10-12 to 20-22. Is this normal? I wouldn’t think extra plumbing to the heater would have anything to do with my pressure building in my filter. I have a Hayward VS Super pump. Thanks in advance.
It can add some back pressure to the filter. The heat pump is another piece of equipment that the water has to travel through. You could lower the speed of the Super Pump VS and that should bring down the PSI. Keep an eye on the heat pump and make sure the lower speeds will still provide enough flow to keep the heat pump working.
Return flow is much lower, which means I need to run my pump at nearly 100% to get good circulation in the pool. Typically I run my pump at 70% from 8am-4pm and then 35% from 4pm to 8am. At 70%, my flow is almost like 40% and 35% hardly moves any water.
So maybe I get a bypass valve and keep it shut unless I plan on using my heater. Any suggestions?
Yes, I would recommend adding a bypass. I keep water diverted away from my heat pump when it’s not running.
