Hot tub spa refinish

I am in the process of redoing the finish on a hot tub. It needs to be completely dry. I have it drained, but I keep having water coming in around where the fountain pipe threads into the floor. In the center of the round hot tub. I’ve used Teflon tape, a plug, tightened very tight, but can’t keep it from letting water up on the floor. What do I need to do to get it and keep it dry so I can do the job?

Greetings! Is this a built-in spa with a female-threaded drain fitting? Be very careful using teflon tape (it is not recommended) since it can make the male part thicker and can cause the female threaded part to split if you use too much.

You might be able to use something like a pump union (1-1/2" or 2") to seal it off. The union has an o-ring to help it seal up perfectly. Add a few inches (or feet) of PVC pipe above the union to raise it up so the water won’t sneak in.

Feel free to post some pictures so we can see what you are working with.
