hayward star clear plus c-1200 filter

The filter head on the above unit will no longer hold together.  The locking knob and tie rod will not tighten.  I will likely replace both assemblies, but the tie rod threads look horrible.  In removing the tie rod from the filter base, is this just a threaded connection and does it loosen clockwise or counterclockwise?  Any hints on how to loosen it?  thanks

The tie rod does connect to the base of the Hayward C1200 filter by a threaded connection and it loosens counter clockwise.

Thanks.  Was not sure how the tie rod could be CCW removal from the filter and the knob CCW removal at the top without removing the tie rod possibly when the knob was turned.  Not sure of that physics, but got the tie rod out.
