I purchase a Salt Water seal kit for my Hayward Flo LX 1580. The question I have it two fold. First, there is a clear plastic ring inside the box that I am unfamilar with. What position does this play in the replacement? I replaced these before but this is a first on the salt water switch.
Also, your instructions mention to use the lub for the shaft…I usually don’t put it on the bass fitting on the impeller. Is this necessary?

That shaft seal kit is used on several pumps. Some models require that clear plastic piece to be pressed into the volute/seal plate. You won’t need to use it if there is not one there currently. The lube would only be necessary if you are having trouble sliding the seal onto the shaft of the impeller.
