Hayward pump motor replacement

I need to replace a Hayward 1.5 HP motor on my pump. I would like to get the most efficient motor possible. Can you assist me in this effort?

Thanks,

John Clemens

Hello John - Could you post an image of your motor label? If not, what is the frame type and service factor?

This is the motor I’d like to replace with a more economical one.

Thanks,

John

Hello John - Our replacement for the DRQD1152 is part number PL1135. Unfortunately, the PL1135 is not more energy efficient. It is less efficient than your current motor. We do not have any other options for that particular pump motor.

Thank you for your reply. Can you provide me some options to replace the entire pump that are more efficient and reasonably priced? I have a 13,000-gallon in-ground vinyl pool with a salt water system. It has a single skimmer and return. I use a Polaris pool vacuum, as well.

A variable speed pump would be the most energy efficient option. We have a great deal on a 1.65 variable speed pump. It’s a Pureline Prime model PL2605. It currently runs $599. However, this pump can pay for itself quickly with energy savings and possible power company rebates.

Thanks for the great suggestion. I believe that pump has 2" connections, is it ok to adapt them to my 1.5" plumbing?

Yes, you can use reducers in order to adapt the fittings to 1.5" plumbing.

Just installed my new PL2605 variable speed pump. The installation was straightforward for the motor and went smoothly. My inground pool lines are 1 1/2" so I had to adapt them to the 2" fittings on the pump. I read on several forums that it is important to provide as much 2" pipe as possible before and after the pump to prevent cavitation. That installation took longer but went very well. I am very pleased with how much quieter the pump is compared to my previous and much older Hayward pump. Hopefully, this pump is the answer to lower my electricity bill, as well.

Thank for coming back and giving us an update. We’re glad the installation went smooth. Enjoy the energy savings!
