I recently replaced the salt flow switch on my hayward extreme pure generator, had the pool water tested and I confirmed the salt level (3600ppm). I calibrated the system for salt, it stays at 3800 and does not change. Generator is working, salt is being generated but the display stays at 3800,
Hi Rich, here are my thoughts on this.
Even the best salt level test (the Taylor Salt Water Drop Test Kit - K-1766) is only accurate to about +/- 100 ppm. The saltwater chlorine generators usually display an average from the last 24 hours of usage, so it may settle down - or up.
A saltwater chlorine generator’s salt level readout is not terribly accurate (it can fluctuate from the actual salt content by +/- 400 on a good day) and is affected by a number of factors, with water temperature being the biggest one. The readings are a little high on a new salt cell and a little low on an older cell, and it will get even lower as the cell approaches its end of life (To get the performance of a salt cell, divide the instant salinity by the actual salinity. If the ratio is less than 75%, it’s time for a new cell).
TL;DR? That’s not a significant enough difference to worry about it. If everything seems to be working just enjoy your easy-to-maintain saltwater pool!
Your explanation explains a lot thank you, I did replace the cell but it was the flow switch that was bad, Thank You
