filter

I believe my filter may be gone, but would like to make sure before I purchase a new unit. the problem I am having is the flow starts off adequate at first but within ten minutes it reduces to a trickle. the pressure in the unit never changes. i have changed all the gaskets. the filter is roughly 15 years old and the pump is around 3. its a 1hp with jacuzzi DE filter…  Am I missing something or has my system outlived its usefullness?

Hi Coachbohm,

When is the last time you replaced the DE filter grids on the inside of your filter? Those grids should be replaced every 5-7 years. When DE grids old and dirty the issue which you are explaining occurs. Below are the parts break downs for the four most popular Jacuzzi DE Filters, you can take a look through those to determine which grids you need, or feel free to post a few photo’s of your filter to this thread, or give us the part # off the label of the filter.

thankyou for the information. but it only raises more questions for me lol. I neer have replaced the elements, so I guess I made out on that. But the Jacuzzi earthworks filter parts list has multiple listings for them. How do I determin which one is correct for my filter?

I noticed they are a bit pricy, and it looks like they are sold indivdually? I’ll have to check but I think Ill need 6? at that price range its $350+. Is it worth putting that much into an aging filter?

If i chose to purchase a cheaper filter, like a sand filter, would my pump be compatible?

Hi Coachbohm,

Can you get a model # off of the label of your filter as that would help us determine which grids you need. You could go with a sand filter but I would need to know the HP of your pump to suggest the proper filter, could you please supply HP?

Thank You

Patrick

The filter is model 40de-hk6-branch

94087897

made 25mar02

it is a Jacuzzi Earthworks Straight Grid DE Filter Parts Schematic with a 1 horse pump model pf71-II-h  serial 342231

Are you sure it’s not the Jacuzzi Avalanche Filter as your part # seems to indicate an Avalanche and not an Earthworks. Could you post a couple of photos of your system? To add a photo just use the text editor above and click on the “mountain” icon.

Thank You

Patrick

Im sorry but your right, its the avalanche system, but the element costs are still significant if they are based on individual screens

This looks to be the right unit.

Av40 Grid Ass’y (42374108r000)

Is  that correct?

I think the most cost-effective way would be to purchase the entire internal grid assembly for $220 here Jacuzzi Inc. Av40 Grid Ass'y (42374108r000) Discontinued - INYOPools.com DE is nice because it filters out much smaller particles then sand filters. If you wanted to go with a comparable sand filter then I would suggest the Jacuzzi laser sand filter here Laser Sand Filter, Top Mount, L225-7C, 22-1/2", 1-1/2" Valve - INYOPools.com
