Dual Speed Pump

I have a 24’ AGP with Hayward 150sf 1-1/2 HP Power-Flo Matrix pump/filter.  I feel like when the pump is on high, it’s using too much electricity and maybe even pushing so much water it’s too fast to filter.  But, when I put it on low, it barely moves the water and algae will grow in low circulation areas.  My thought was that I need to replace the motor with a 1HP to save electricity, but now that I’ve read about service factor I think I basically have a 1HP since my SF is SPL.  Any suggestions?

Hello CStarjr - Thank you for contacting Inyo. Have you tried running the pump on high speed for a couple hours a day and then the rest of the day on a low speed?

I’ve thought about that, but unfortunately I’m too lazy to switch the pump from high to low a couple times a day.  Since my pump motor only has an on/off high/low switch, is there a way to do that with a timer?

There is a timer that could do that automatically. The part number is PE153P. The motor would have to be hardwired to this timer.
