Do you offer any dual speed motor replacements for my Pentair 7-177475-20 (1.5HP/1.10SF/1.65SFHP Version)
I have a 20x40 47,000 gallon pool with one skimmer and two return jets.
I believe my current pump’s bearings have apparently failed.
I have photos of two labels on the motor if that would be helpful.
I’m hopeful I can get a replacement that can save me some $$$ on my energy bill.
Thanks!
Will
Hello Will,
A comparable variable speed motor as a replacement to the current motor you have would be the 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor Square Flange - ECM27SQU. There is a smaller motor that has a max horsepower of 1.65 that you could use, but I would recommend the larger 2.7HP motor due to the size and volume of your pool. I would also recommend that you replace the shaft/pump seal when you change the motor. You will need the pump information located on the front half of the equipment that the motor attaches to in order to identify the correct replacement part. Thank you for your question!

Hey Alan,
That 2.7 HP is almost twice my current HP and what I have now does a fine job of circulation. I’d hate to put too large of a motor on there and risk messing up my older filter and especially plumbing.
Do you have a link to the 1.65 HP that would also fit?
Thanks,
Will
Hello Will,
Please keep in mind that the variable speed motors vary in speed from .75hp to 2.7hp (or .75hp to 1.65hp for the smaller). That will provide you a range of speeds you can run your pump. The higher the speed setting up to the maxium tolerance of the motor, the less energy efficent the motor becomes. Since you currently have a 1.65hp motor, replacing it with a VS with the same HP would not make a cost effective option, as you would be running it at the max speed to obtain the same flow rate for circulation for your 47,000 gallon pool. That is how I came to the recomendation for the larger replacement VS motor.
Here is a link to the 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor Square Flange - ECM16SQU as requested.

Hey Alan,
I see what you are saying. I guess I was thinking that there are dual speed motors that I could run a full tilt during the day and at half speed at night or hopefully half speed during the winter when the water is much colder.
I found the direct replacement (i think) here: Pentair pump motor 7-177475-20 - Pool Equipment - Inyo Pool People
Do you have anything else? The variable speed motors are a litte more than I was hoping to spend.
Thanks!
Will
Hello Will,
One last thing, and that is to replace the shaft/pump seal whenever you change out the motor on your pump. You will need the pump information located on the front half of the equipment that the motor attaches to in order to identify the correct replacement part. Please let us know if you need assistance identifing your pump and the correct part.
Thank you,
Inyo Alan
That shouldn’t be an issue.
Can you answer my previous post regarding any other options?
Dual speed maybe?
Here is my pump label.
Thanks.

Hello Will,
According to the information provided, you have a Pentair Superflo 1.5 HP pump. Here is a parts list for your reference to the Pentair Superflo Parts. Here is a link to the Tune Up Kit Pentair SuperFlo - GOKIT78 that includes all the seals you would need for your pump.
This is the 1.5 HP Standard Motor - Full Rate (B2858) and the second option Pool Motor Square Flange 1.5 HP Full Rate Dual Speed w/ Digital Controller -B2983T.
You should be good to go at this point, but feel free to let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Thank you,
Inyo Alan
Me again Alan,
I’ve been reading on the voltage requirements of these pumps and I"m not confident that what I have supplied (not sure exactly what it is to be honest) will be enough for the pumps in the links you sent me.
I’ve narrowed my choices down to the B2983T and the ECM16SQU. Will either of these work off whatever I have running my current pump?
Thanks,
Will
Hi Will,
The dual speed B2983T is the correct replacement dual speed motor. And as previously stated before, a comparable variable speed motor as a replacement for the current motor you have would be the 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor Square Flange - ECM27SQU. The smaller VS motor that has a max horsepower of 1.65 might be too small due to the size and volume of your pool.
Thank you,
Inyo Alan
