dual or variable speed motor replacement

Hi folks, the motor of my pump burned out (AO Smith 7-177476-20). Would it be possible to replace by dual or variable speed motor? in case it is so, would you mind giving some feedback about the model? MAny thanks!

Hi eirinlopez,

Yes you could replace your motor with either a dual speed or variable speed motor. Your motor has a True HP (THP) of 2.25 which means if you went wthe dual speed route you would need the B2983T Dual Speed 2.2 THP Replacement Motor If you went the variable speed route then you would require the ECM27SQU Variable Speed 2.7 THP Replacement Motor if you went variable speed then you would most likely want to increase your impeller to a 2.7 THP impeller as your current 2.2 THP impeller would mean that you could only run the motor up to 2.2 THP with this motor not utilizing the upper horse power.

We wrote an article on Should I Go With a Dual Speed or Variable Speed Motor which I think you would find helpful, the basic conclusion is… “if you have expensive electricity and you run your pump year round then go with the variable speed”, “if you have inexpensive electricity and you close your pool for a portion of the year then go with the dual speed motor”.

If you could let me know the make and model of your pump then I could suggest the appropriate impeller for the variable speed motor, we also always suggest a seal kit when replacing your motor and we need to know the make and model of your pump to suggest the proper seal kit, we look forward to hearing back from you.

Thank You

Patrick
