Dog Hair

We have a Labradoodle that sheds (not terribly, but certainly noticably!)   I use the thin streach stockings in the skimmer and sweep baskets, and also one in the pump inlet basket.    The one in the pump basket was to see how much hair gets past the other two stockings…  Answer:  A LOT!

So, do you have any suggestions for a more efficient filter medium to keep the dog hair out of our sand filter? (other than totally banning the dog from the pool?)     This fall I am installing some solar water heater panels for the pool, and the tubes are rather small in the panels.  I am concerned about hair in the system blocking thos tiny tubes, so am trying to get things working well now before this fall!   Thanks!!! Chuck

Hello GrandpaChuck - We would recommend manually skimming the pool after the dog swims. You can also put a stocking over the manual leaf skimmer to catch the finer hair.

We have also had people double up the socks on the skimmer baskets. As long as it doesn’t decrease the flow too much, the system will operate just fine.

Hopefully this helps. Thank you for shopping with INYOpools.com!
