I have a considerable amount of dirt getting into my pool from all 4 inlet jets. I replaced my filter last year (inyopools) and put in Aqualoom (it’s like cotton balls) so, no sand.
There is only one 2" return line leaving the filter plumbing but, 4 inlet jets. So, I have to assume there is some type of “header” where the 2" line feeds each of the 4 returns. I can’t imagine that each of the return lines has a leak that is drawing-in dirt. I am thinking that there is a leak between the 2" return line and a header or, cracks in the header itself.
So, is there a header and, if so, do you carry a replacement? And, is is something that a DYI person can replace? I have worked with the PVC piping for my pool and lawn irrigation system.
Thanks,
Tom
I’m watching this. I have the same problem. I was sure it was sand in the pool. I still think it was partly sand. I did have a broken lateral. I replaced all laterals, and replacved sand with filterballs (similar to aqua loom). I defitniely got every grain of sand out of the filter. Still getting dirt and seems like some sand in the pool. Every morning. Seemed like brown algae. I have done 2 major doses of algicide. Dirt is still there. I don’t think it could be a leak in the return line. I would be losing significant water, and it doesn’t seem like it would continue to suck dirt in as it is a pressuraized pipe. I don’t think it is a leak on the suction side as I should then see air bubbles. I actually just did my second dose of algacide yesterday. There were brown depositis in the usualy spots this morning. I will keep monitoring. I don’t know my dirt is acutally coming fromt he inlet jets. I don’t know where it is coming from or what it is.
Hello Tom - Headers, like you are describing, aren’t typically used with inground pools. There is usually a series of 3-way fittings that allow you to plumb in several returns. If you think the sand may be coming from a leak in the return plumbing, you can use a product called Fix a Leak.
DIRECTIONS
Bypass FILTER MEDIA before adding FIX-A-LEAK to water. Sand filters: set filter valve to recirculate. Other types: remove cartridges DE elements from filter tank. Then proceed to circulate through empty tank
With pump running, add FIX-A-LEAK slowly through skimmer or in front of any other suction intake.
After adding FIX-A-LEAK adjust suction to main drain. If this is not possible, the vacuum cleaner could be used alternatively, simply by placing the vacuum in deepest part of pool and connect to normal vacuum connection.
FIX-A-LEAK is very heavy and will sink to the lowest point rather quickly. It must be stirred back into suspension, either manually using a pool broom or mechnically with a automated pool cleaner every 4-6 hrs. during circulation of water.
Continue to recirculate water until the leak has stopped.
Mark level of water in pool and check for 2-3 days to determine if the leak has stopped.
After the leak has stopped and given the proper time to cure (24-48 hrs.) you may return to normal filtration. Sand Filters: Set filter valve to filter and resume normal operation. Backwash out unused FIX-A-LEAK as required.
Other Types: Reinstall filter into tank and resume operation. Rinse out unsed FIX-A-LEAK from filter as required.
NOTE Never let cartridges of DE elements be left to dry before they are cleaned.
Treatment can be repeated if necessary.
