Compupool CPSC Chlorine Generator

Hi. Some history before my question.

I have an old control unit tied to a new salt cell servicing a 40,000 gallon pool. Started getting a water fault error until I cleaned the wires and then I got a low/add salt error. Salt is actually a little high right now. Later, the correct error light came on Salt too high and has remained on. Checked the salt cell and the outflow and everything seems to be working well.

Current issues include I can only read the LED panel at night. And, the big one. The unit seems to shut off all by itself?? The heat sink seems to be very hot (can’t hold your hand on it for very long). The unit is set to the factory settings including external and 240volts. The pump is set to come on at 11:00pm. I don’t know if the control unit fires up at that point. I could change the start time so I can check this out. Around 4:00am I check the system. Pump is still running but control unit is off. I turn the control  unity on and it is still on 3 hours later. I guess the question is can the unit overheat and is there a protection built in to shut off the unit if it does overheat?
