Century C48C53A06 1.5 hp pump won't start or hum. Electrical issue

In advance, THANK YOU for any advice!

I have a Century C48C53A06 1.5 hp pump. RPM-3450; Volts 115/230 (use 115); AMPS 16.8/8.4
It’s about 10 years old and used about 8 months a year. Never have had any problems.

Worked one day and not the next. No hum, nothing. Breaker, receptacle all good. Opened it up and Capacitor was burned so replaced with same specs. Still nothing. Used multimeter on TOP (thermal overload protector) and I may have misread readings and therefore replaced with another good TOP with same specs. Still nothing. No hum. Nothing. Checked Governor. Looks clean and makes solid contact with Start Switch. Shaft turns easily, no binding. Starter Switch looks clean but still cleaned the contacts. Cleaned all connections even though all looked good except a little carbon on Black wire connection to front of Terminal Block and Purple wire connected to back of Terminal Block. Easily cleaned and contact is good. Still NOTHING. No hum or click. Nothing. And nothing, including old and new TOP, smell burnt.

What is next to check? The Primary Winding? I have a good multimeter but am not the best with it yet. IF everything I checked is good and it is a winding, would it be best to take it to a Pump shop to have it redone? Probably cheaper than a new pump given this one sure looks good and worked well before this hiccup.

Thank you!
Mike

Hi Mike, we are sorry to hear about the motor on your pool pump and the “rabbit hole” that fixing them can send you down.

It sounds like you checked the usual suspects on the motor. You may also want to check the windings.

Nonetheless, 10 years is a good long life for a modern pool pump motor. Send us an image of the label on it and any labels on the the pump it attaches to if you would like us to recommend a motor replacement and new pump seals for a leak-free installation.

Thank you. I will read the referenced instructions.
Here are two pics. One is with a tape measure to show where pipes are connected.
This is used as a well water pump. Foot valve is no more than 20’ down.

P.S. Yes, this pump is about 10 years old but given it is only used as a well water pump for our yard about 8 months a year when it isn’t raining, I bet that is a lot less use than if were being used for a pool. None of the connections I referenced were corroded.

Ahhhh, I’m sorry to say that’s a horse of a different color for us. We don’t carry that exact motor - I believe it is currently called a T1152 from the manufacturer Regal Rexnord. This ST1152 could be used as a substitute but, due to the duty cycle, I would not recommend it. You probably would not get 10 years out of it.

Ok. Thank you for your honest advice. I appreciate it. Cheers.
