Algae and cloudy

I bought a house with a pool this spring.  The pool has been quite a headache.

I shock my pool;

1 day later I have green scum on the floor;

I vaccum it to waste and fill my water back up.   (A lot of money wasted);

The next day I have green scum again.

I’m at a loss.  Please help

It sounds like the chlorine level is not being maintained at the proper level. You should have a free chlorine level in the range of 2-4 parts per million. Algae is very unlikely to grow when the proper parameters are kept. Below are few links to useful information in regards to maintaining the pool.

Hi there, I agree that low chlorine may be the problem. You must try to change the filter media like sand or catridges. Apart from this, check the phosphaste level of your pool and treat it with phosphaste removal chemical. Try to add supplemental sanitizer.

Great tip on the phosphates, Michael. Thank you for the feedback.
