The 2" input/output PVC pipes in my above ground pool heater was leaking at the joints. In repairing the leaking joints I apparently broke a part on the top of the heater unit itself. The part that is broken is a rubber coated hex fitting with a nipple coming out of the top of the heater. A plastic tube fits into the nipple, which is what is broken off the fitting.
My problems are as follows:
- I don’t know what the fitting is called or what it is for,
- I have put a lot of pressure on the fitting trying to get it to break free so I could replace it but I am smashing the rubber covering and not moving the fitting itself. I am afraid to put too much pressure on the fitting as at thiis point I’m not sure it is supposed to come out of the heater.
- If it’s not designed to be removed, now do I replace the nipple so I can put the rubber tube back in the fitting?
The heater is a LeasureTemp 111 for above ground pools from Recreational Factory Warehouse. They tell me they have different companies build their heaters and put the “LeasureTemp” name on them so they are not sure what make and model it actually is.
Any information or guidance is appreciated.
Good Afternoon,
Hope you are doing well. I am a phone tech for AquaCal & can assist with this question. The part number is a PLS2642 & is called a hose barb. This part can be removed from the heat exchanger, but can be difficult. Over time, you can get calcium & scale build up in the threads that cements the part in place. If you use a little WD-40 to help dissolve the scale it will make the part easier to remove. I have seen some cases where the part has to cut out. As long as you don’t damage the threads on the heat exchanger you will be able to screw a new barb in with some teflon tape or a light application of pipe dope. Once you have the barb in place, you will push the tubing onto the barb & use a zip tie to help secure the tubing. Additionally, there is a kit available that includes the hose barb, new tubing & a new water pressure switch - part number 0015S.
Inyo should be able to provide pricing for either the PLS2642 or the 0015S.
Thanks
Robert

Thank you for the information. I contacted AquaCal today. I’ve ordered the new part and an upper controller and will be arranging an AquaCal teck to come out and replace the parts as soon as they arrive.
