Replacement Smith super pump chirps

One year old. Just noticed that the pump makes a slight chirping sound besides the normal motor humming. This does not sound like a bearing going bad which has a more constant lower pitch sound. What to do?

Motor is Century (Mexico), C48L2N134C1    1.5hp (in case relevant)

Hi Stephen,

I have heard this chirping noise before and normally this is due to the shaft seal coming out of alignment and can be fixed by simply reseating your shaft seal, the shaft seal is key # 11 on the Hayward Super Pump Parts Diagram. Here is a video on How to Replace a Shaft Seal which you may find helpful. Also, if you need to purchase a new shaft seal then you would require this Hayward Super Pump Shaft Seal. I hope this helps and let us know if this fixes your issue.

Thank You

I have lost the link, but I seem to recall from someplace that there is the possibility of lubricating the shaft seal. Is this a possibility? Reasonable? Lubricant?

I Appreciate the quick response. Thanks

Yes, there is the Sealube Shaft Seal Lubricant which we do recommend, I think this would be a good choice for your situation.

Thank You

I replaced the shaft seal, but the noise seemed to reappear. I am thnking now that it the start of bearing failure. This time I am going to wait to see if the noise increases. The puzzling thing is that the noise is not constant but intermittant at regular intervals. My understanding is that bearing failure causes a pretty constant noise.

If anyone has insight here . . .

Stephen

Stephen,

If the seal did not fix the issue then it is most likely the bearings. Your 1.5 HP Super Pump would require two 6203 Bearings We also have a Video on How to Replace Pool Pump Bearings which you may find helpful.
