replacement pump and sand in filter

Pool repair company replaced  old noisy Hayward super pump self priming AO smith with

Us motor 1081 pool motor model C55CXKMB-5012.  Are these the same type of pumps.  New US motor pump takes FOREVER to prime, vacumming the pool is difficult because very little suction, looses prime.  Old sand filter had sand replaced but PSI does not climb above 5psi.  Is that normal.  With old sand psi was at 12psi. ANY advise good or bad is appreciated, so thanks

Hello,

Do you have the specs. off of the old AO Smith Motor. The US Motors model # is for a 1 HP Hayward Super Pump was the AO Smith motor that came off of the pump a 1 HP? We do have a Video & Guide on Common Reasons for Low Pressure I would take a look at the different items in this video to see if any of these are causing your low PSI issue. We have found better results with the AO Smith - Century Motor over the US Motors line of motors.

Thank You

Thanks Patrick

The old Hayward AO SMith was a 1 HP 115/230 volt hz 80  rpm 3450 model c48k2n14??1 and it was a self priming pump.  This new one does not prime so something else is going on.  Convinced that the US motor pump is the problem, I’ve had this pool for 21 years, had 2 replacement motors put it.  Pool originally had the hayward and that was replaced with WITH THE EXCEPTION of this US motor.  Never had a problem with the Hayward Superpump…also…After 45 minutes of putting water into the skimmer basket, I opened the skimmer basket, put my hand inside and the water was very warm to the touch- so it looks like the pump motor is overheating, I shut it off.

I will look at the low PSI videos- thanks for the info.

Please confirm about the motors if you can- thanks

Hi Sosouth2016,

The US Motors Motor you have is the correct replacement for your previous C48K2N143B1, we have always had great success with AO Smith / Century. It definitely sounds like the US Motors motor is not functioning properly especially the fact that the water is hot. I would suggest contacting the company you purchased the motor from and tell them that the motor is not functioning properly and you would like to have it replaced with an AO Smith - Century UST1102 Motor.

Thank You

Patrick

Thanks Patrick.  I appreciate your help in solving my problem

Hi Sosouth2016,

How did you end up solving the problem?

Thanks

Patrick

Hi Patrick

The pool repair team replaced the 1st motor to a slightly more powerful motor and they replaced a part by the impeller thar controls the flow of water to the pump the water in the skimmer basket in the pump is now the same temperature as the pool water instead of being hot as I first indicated.  After the 2nd new motor was replaced and the new pump part was changed…guesss what?  FILTER PSI is at a consistant 15 (which is the normal for this old sand filter) and now the returns in the pool are shooting water at a stronger flow, the prime pumps in less than 10 seconds and the pool is up and running.  thanks

One  more thing…Trust me, next time I will need to replace this motor, i will be getting it from INYO pools…you guys are awesome.  I appreciate all the help and recommendations

Hi Sosouth2016,
