pump motor

My a.o. smith too green motor will shut down for a few seconds then start again. It also seems to have lost half of it’s display. cleaned connections, just started it from last fall.  any ideas?

Hi mike58

This sounds like a drive failure to me. Will need to replace entire unit as the drive is not serviceable, how old is the motor?

Thank You

Patrick

Hi Pat,

The motor is 2 years old, but, being in MN. it only has about 7 months run time. I’m thinking that the control module(timer), may have gotten moisture in it. I took the display cover off because I couldn’t lift it up, being that it was under my multiport. Don’t know if that would allow water in, but, there was moisture in the display panal and now only half the display shows up

Hi Mike58,

I spoke with our A.O Smith Rep. and he said he could get this replaced under warranty as long as there no water damage is present on shaft end. Can you take a few photo’s of the shaft end, the part of the motor where the impeller attaches to the shaft.? I would need these photo’s along with a photo of the motor label to get the warranty replacement started. Water damage on the shaft end would look something like the face of the motor in the photo below.

Hey Patrick, Thanks for going the extra mile for me.  I took some pictures, How do I get them to you?

Mike you can reply to the forum email you received and attach the photo’s to that email.

Hi Mike58,

Your warranty replacement motor shipped out yesterday and according to UPS will be delivered on Thursday. I hope everything works out okay.

Thanks

Patrick

Hey Patrick,  From looking for some help, to getting a new motor, you went way above and beyond.  I appreciate your help. Thank again.  Mike 58

Thank you Mike, much appreciated!

I have a 1 HP motor. Since the swimming pool got installed, I have bee adding water features. A slide, a waterfall, and the latest are 4 laminar jets. I can make any one of those features working fine with enough water volume, but no those three at the same time.

I believe the swimming pool has 1 1/2" pipe.

I want to know if adding a second motor is a better option. The pipe that supplies all three water features is connected to the main motor and using a valve to shut them off. If a second motor is the option, the water source would be coming from the same main filter? What size motor? Thanks

Hector - If it’s a 1.5" suction line, adding a new pump for another water feature might not help. The problem is that the suction side piping can only pull so much water through it. Adding another pump to that same suction line could cause the pumps to cavitate. The new pump would probably need its own dedicated suction line.

The new pump would probably need its own dedicated suction line. The size of the HP would depend on the total feet of head and the GPM required by the water feature.
