Pool Pump overheating and shutting off

Hello,

I sent a post on Friday of last week about a pump that I recently purchased that is now chronically overheating and shutting down.   Per your recommendation I changed the impeller to an SPX 3007c and the pump runs longer but still shuts down.   I am really at my witts end with this.   Is it possible that the pump is undersized for the equipment?

The pool has approximately 30000 gallons and has a 350 LB sand filter.  all plumping is 2 inch.   Let me know the best course of action.

Hello Jay - The pump is not undersized for your system. Unfortunately the motor may be permanently damaged from having the wrong impeller on there originally.

Rob,

Just for Clarification,  the original pump on the pool was an ST 1102 and this new pump is a UST 1102.   I believe they are not equivalent looking at your ratings charts.   Can you explain.

Jay

The ST1102 is a full rated 1HP and the UST1102 is an uprated motor. The ST1102 has a higher total HP rating. That explains why the UST1102 you ordered was overheating originally. The full rated impeller was oversized and it damaged the UST1102.

So what is the best path forward?

My assumption is that I need a full rated ST 1102 motor and the 3010 impellar?

The UST1102 didn’t fail because the pool was too large. It can handle that volume of water. It only failed because of the wrong impeller. Either motor will work. If you go back to the ST1102 you would use the SPX3010C impeller.
