pool motor

Hello,

I just replaced my pool motor on a Hayward Superpump II. The original motor was 1.5 HP w/ 1 SF (THP = 1.5 HP). The new motor is a 1.5 HP w/ 1.3 SF, which comes to about 2 THP. I got this motor because the local pool store told me that it would work in my pump and they said it would take 10 days to order the exact match. I installed it and it appears to be working properly. However, after doing research I am now seeing that it will cost more to run and likely is outputting the same GPM b/c I am using the original 1.5 HP impeller/diffuser. Other than the cost for running it, are there any other negatives? Will it damage my equipment? Or is it still outputting the same GPM since I have not changed out the impeller? The filter is an old Nautilus DE stainless steel filter with 60 sq ft., which is rated for 150 GPM.

Hi Kylethomas,

You pretty much nailed it in your post =) The new motor will be fine and would be outputting the same amount of water as your old pump since you are using the same impeller. The downside is that you are spending more money to run this motor and it has the same output of water as the old motor. There will be no harm to the equipment just the downside of spending more to operate. You could upgrade your impeller to the Super II 1.95 THP Impeller to get the full power of the motor, but we would need some information from you to make sure the filter could handle the increased flow from the pump.

What size plumbing do you have?

What is the distance of pipe from your pump to the main drain at the bottom of the pool?

What is the distance of pipe from your pump to the skimmer at the side of the pool? (if you have two supply both distances)

Thank You

Patrick
