My pool pump seems to work fine when I do not have the solar heater hooked up to the system. This solar heater is one of the round ones (1 1/4 hose that wraps around and around and sits in the sun). It seems the pump is not strong enough to get the water through the hoses (Heater) and back to into the pool with enough force for it to circulate thru the pool.
Do I need a stronter pump?
Hello A19621962b - It sounds like the pump may not be strong enough for the solar heater. What is the HP of the pump?
I have been unable to determine the HP, it is a Krystal Clear Pump model 633T that came with the pool which is a 10 X 20 x 4 Intex above ground, does this help? Thanks for your help, you guys are great.
Unfortunately the Krystal Clear Pump model 633T will not be strong enough. You’ll either need to remove the solar system or go with a larger pump/filter combo.
Something like the Hayward C4001575XES would be sufficient. This is a 40 square foot cartridge filter with a 1HP pump.
Okay thanks for your help. I have removed the solar heater cuz I couldn’t get enough filtration with it on there. I’ll give some thought to the Hayward, but am contemplating going with some kind of sand filter for next year, we’ll get by as is for the rest of this season. Thanks again.
Good luck and enjoy what’s left of the pool season!
Thanks for sharing great tip about pool heater repair.
